FAQs

What pads are you distributing?

Pads are cotton,  handmade, colourful, disposable, reuseable and adsorbant. We purchase these pads from "DFG" .. Days For Girls.

In Nairobi, these pads are sewn locally by volunteers through the "Days For Girls " nonprofit (DFG.) Sewing locally cuts down the tremendous cost of shipping bulky pads. DFG Pads are safe colorful, and washable; a great solution for managing menstruation around the world, along with vital education. Days For Girls Ambassadors help deliver education in the field regarding menstrual health, including a version for boys and men. This project also helps local leaders establish sustainable businesses that sew produce and sell these patent-winning Kit Pads..

Our "Be Aware and Care"  nonprofit is funded by donations by purchasing and educating two Pad Projects. In Nairobi Kenya and Akumal Mexico, we are growing with your help.! Project Pads is something that speaks to most women, as we all can relate to our shared experiences.

What kind of pads are you distributing?

These kits are light, absorbent, and washable, lasting several years.  These are hand-made colorful cotton pads. They are reusable and disposable. With care the pads should last around 2 years.

DFG helps set up local sites and local community sewing groups. They also get mothers and other family members involved. Everyone benefits as it also gives the groups a small income.

Plus purchasing locally is a tremendous help with any shipping costs that add up quickly and slow down availability.

DFG  partnered with MIET Africa UNFPA South Africa and Water Aid to procure DFG washable pads for use in this systematic study. On the acceptability of washable pads among school-aged girls in 3 provinces DFG is part of a global team seeking to understand the status and enforcement of regulatory standards for disposable and reusable sanitary pads in several countries. The goal of this project was to bring greater global harmony amongst these current disparate standards. The results of this study contributed to a database for standards on these disposable reusable products.

There is a link on DFG that one can click on under  "Policy and Advocacy through Leadership.

We use the DFG pads because DFG provides leadership and studies. They are involved with technical advisory groups supported by the likes of  Development Solutions and the Reproductive Health Supply Coalition {RHSC} from grassroots advocates to national leaders worldwide.

DFG is part of a global team to understand the status and enforcement of regulatory standards for disposable and reusable sanitary pads to bring greater global harmony.
