Empowering women and girls through menstrual health management
Why Do Girls Miss School In Nairobi?
When a girl in Nairobi starts her period, it doesn’t just indicate a biological change but often brings a tragic change in her life.
Not only is having your period an unfortunate cultural taboo, but thousands of Nairobi girls do not have access to menstrual products forcing them to stay home rather than go to school.
What we do
Be Aware and Care delivers our work through a positive development model. We support local teachers to provide menstrual health education and distribute long-lasting, washable pads.
We believe in a locally led and empowered approach to address menstrual health, including improved access to menstrual products and preventative health screening and education.
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

Empowering Women and Girls
Prioritizing menstrual health management is crucial for the empowerment of women and girls. When girls are confident and able to manage their menstruation healthily and with dignity, they can fully participate in all areas of life, including school, work, and community activities. This empowerment can have far-reaching effects on their prospects and contribute to societal development.
